About your instructor:
Katie grew up amongst the sandstone walls of northern Arizona and has had her hands deep in dirt all her life. She first fell in love with clay as a therapeutic outlet in 2015 at a community studio in Tucson, AZ, and enjoys creating small batches of pottery made with intention. She began sharing her joy of pottery through teaching in 2022 and is grateful to share the tactile act of creating with clay.
About the space:
Katie aims to cultivate an environment to nurture creative play - providing a welcoming space to connect with clay and ourselves. She hopes you will leave each experience feeling grounded and inspired, with an heirloom you’ll cherish for years to come.
Workshops are hosted at a variety of spaces including the backyard of Katie’s home studio in South Central Austin, local ceramic studios, plant stores, cafes, and more.

In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll explore the shimmering, textured beauty of micaceous clay from Northern New Mexico. I'll guide you through the process to create a unique altar/wall hanging. Perfect for holding a candle, precious things, or just to display on it's own.
Multiple templates and designs will be available to customize your piece. Pieces will be fired and left unglazed - allowing the beautiful mica to sparkle through (which turns gold after firing!)
No experience needed—just come ready to play.
Light snacks and drinks are provided. Please dress comfortably and be ready to get your hands dirty—in the best way. Short nails recommended for a more enjoyable experience.

Micaceous clay, sourced from Northern New Mexico, carries natural flecks of mica that transform into a warm golden sparkle once fired. Using provided templates, you’ll shape and design your own pieces before finishing them with high-quality jewelry findings and hand-selected stones.
Together, Katie and Alaina will guide you step by step as you create:
