This radiant clay, from New Mexico Clay, is full of specks of natural mica, giving it a beautiful golden glow after firing.

Mined in the Manzano Mountains of NM and blended with other natural minerals making it the closest thing to digging up your own clay in Taos NM!

It's consistency is rough and contains little plasticity - best used for handbuilding and coil pots.

Burnish your finished pieces for added shine and durability.

Firing:

Micaceous clay is traditionally wood fired outdoors to temperatures of around 1200 F. Also works great for pit firing, Raku and electric firing. (Images shown are from electric firing)

Fire to cone 010 for mica shine. *Do not fire past past cone 08 or the shine will fade. Don't currently fire to this temperature? Join my monthly mica firings! (email for more info - hello@katieannclay.com)

Fire to cone 04 for glazing.

CONE: 04 SHRINKAGE 6% ABSORPTION: 7.7% PENTROMETERS: 5.6
